If you’ve ever considered Edie Sedgwick a style icon, you can likely credit Andy Warhol’s Poor Little Rich Girl film. The 1965 underground film stars our dear Edie Sedgwick as a socialite in her very own New York City apartment.
This is a true art house film. It depicts Sedgwick ordering coffee, smoking, exercising, waking up and putting on makeup in total silence — the only sound is an Everly Brothers record in the background.
We can thank the odd, out-of-focus quality to the genius of Warhol. He shot the film it its entirety before releasing the reels were out of focus due to faulty camera lens. After reshooting, Warhol added in parts of the original out-of-focus footage.
Later on in the film, she chats with her friend, Chuck Wein, while on her bed. Wein is off-camera and asks her random questions about various subjects and dreams before she goes back to smoking, putting in makeup and getting dressed up in different outfits (think: leopard skin coats).
