There comes a certain time during the day when no matter how comfortable or low our heels are, we all want to change into flats. Even if you’re one of the world’s modern fashion icons, sometimes comfort comes before fashion.
Recently, Ashley Olsen was seen wearing a long navy blue dress, black duster coat and dark sunglasses. She topped the look off with a few simple, dainty gold strand necklaces, dark sunglasses and a pair of simple, grounded flat loafers. Judging from the pair of black strappy heels she carried in one hand, it was obvious that she had either been wearing them earlier or was about to put them on for a more dressed-up evening look. Her oversized backpack (with a visible charger cord escaping) proved that like all of us, she’s a woman that understands the value of having options and bringing a bag and pair of shoes that are equally stylish are as they functional and transitional.
As co-designer of The Row, Olsen definitely knows the transforming power of a chic, minimal look that allows you to go from day-to-night without sacrificing style. It’s possible that the celeb was also taking a style cue from the recent runways too. Gucci has been producing different versions of the elevator loafer trend for a few seasons now, and other brands such as Charlotte Olympia have also reinvented the loafer to be a fashion object of desire and an incredibly easy shoe to wear out.
In the case of Olsen, like all of us, she probably recognizes that you can just move faster and get more done when wearing flats. She also probably understands that heels still hold a unique transforming power in the world of fashion. Regardless, consider Olsen’s flats them a new form of power dressing, if you will.
