Transformation of materials is always an interesting thing. Balenciaga is an always an interesting thing. Particularly in the 2010s, when conventions were defied and the silhouettes, forms theories of the Balenciaga brand were just… achingly good. One such example is Balenciaga Fall 2010.
Vicissitude is when fur is shaved to look like quilting; when cashmere is made to look like industrial foam; when shoes are encased with chunks of plastic- looking like expensive legos. Vicissitude was also Balenciaga.
Whether wearability stood as a dilemma or not, Balenciaga did what the fashion world needed. Paris needed someone to do something different, someone to take a walk on the wild side. Nicolas Ghesquière pushed things forward. Sometimes fashion needs to be made enigmatic for pure arts sake.
