Each month, as a writer who covers beauty for multiple publications, I receive a ton of various beauty products. 20 different types of hairspray that all do different things? I have them. Every single shade range from a brand’s recent lipstick launch? Check. Because of this, I have a habit of trying different products for a few days before swiftly moving on to the next great thing. On top of that, I’m such a beauty addict that I also raid the aisles of Sephora and Ulta. In an effort to be more sustainable in 2020, I will be attempting to try to use every single product I try to the last drop (unless, of course, it’s total garbage.). Each month, I’ll be documenting the best products I finish the previous month. Here, my list of the best beauty products of to try for January 2020.
Skyn Iceland Micellar Water
First up, I finished up my bottle of the Skyn Iceland Micellar Water. I mostly used this as a light makeup remover on my face and ice area before cleaning. What I really liked about it was the fact that it felt very refreshing in general and it didn’t burn my eyes (some micellar waters definitely do). The product contains Icelandic glacial water and witch hazel, which I also really love because witch hazel is great at removing certain environmental elements of pollution for those living in a big dirty city like I do in New York City. You can often find the ingredient in toners, so this to me felt like a two-in-one.
Lush Sleepy Shower Gel
I actually bought this product over an entire year ago at Lush’s annual Boxing Day Sale (if you’ve never checked it out before, definitely do it because it’s the only time of year that all the seasonal stuff is on sale 50% off). My Twilight Lush Shower Gel was so old in fact, that it has been replaced with the very similar Sleepy Shower Gel. I’ve tried both products and Sleepy seems to be a more gentle version of Twilight. Both are great however, for reducing anxiety and creating an aromatherapy effect based on lavender before bed. Oat milk, lavender oil, tonka and ylang ylang blend together for the perfect mix of skin softening, too.
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask
The Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask has become a classic for good reason. This is personally the third time I’ve actually finished a bottle and I can say it is one of the only masks I regularly finish. When used once a week, it makes skin appear instantly more glow-y, tigher and refined, reducing the appearance of fine lines. It actually makes my one forehead wrinkle disappear the next morning. One thing to note, if you have sensitive skin like me, you should only use this at night followed by a soothing oil to calm your skin, because it will be very red immediately after. That’s because it has one of the highest acid concentrates on the market: 25% AHA Blend Glycolic + (T) Tartaric, (L) Lactic, (C) Citric Acids plus the 2% BHA.
Glossier Haloscope Highlighter
Without a doubt this has become a highlighter I will definitely be repurchasing. It’s one of the most natural dew-y highlighters I’ve come across that still actually makes an impact. It’s the kind of highlighter only someone really close to you might notice, but they’ll definitely compliment it. It’s easy to apply — swipe and use fingers to blend — and has an incredible, subtle iridescence that is just the right amount. Use my link for 10% off your order!
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream
This is the quite possibly the most hyped-up face cream of the last year, but for good reason. It is lightweight and seamlessly absorbs into skin and creates a very bright, glow-y complexion without the dewiness or stickiness. No, it’s not cheap, but it’s designed to be used as only product in your routine aside from cleansers. I’ve never been one to become a skincare minimalist, but Augustinus Bader is probably the only brand that would make me consider it. And truth be told, when I had those nights where I was too tired to do my full routine, this is the one thing I used and called it a night. The tiny bottle pictured above is the travel size version (cute, right)? I previously finished a full-size bottle and went straight into my travel sized version because it was just too good.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice Oil-Free Moisturizer
I don’t like using moisturizers in the morning, so, Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Pink Juice Oil-Free Moisturizer was perfect for me in that it was so lightweight and fresh. It works very well with other morning serums such as Vitamin C, anti-pollution serums and more. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the packaging is really cute and it smells really amazing.
