This weekend was spent sampling some of the very best desserts from Dessert Goals, a new two-day festival hosted in Williamsburg. The fest, now in its Sophomore year, brought together over 20 vendors under one roof (and a rooftop) complete with gummy bear-shaped chairs. After an hour of trying over ten different desserts, I literally felt like I never wanted to eat sugar again (in a good way!) Here, some of the best desserts I tried and where to get them.
Taiyaki: Located in Chinatown, Taikyaka serves fish-shaped waffle cones stuffed with green tea matcha soft-serve and mochi. It’s worth it alone for the Instagram photo–and popular for that reason, obviously. The cone is distinctly unique–chewy and on the inside, and slightly crunchy on the outside.
Silk Cakes: This Asian cake shop is located in Forest Hills, Queens and stocks some of the prettiest creations that look like they’re straight out of Spirited Away. The cakes above were flavored with cherry blossom and chocolate. These mini cakes were the size of slightly oversized cupcakes, but if you’re in the market for a wedding cake, they do that too.
Jae NYC Eats: This company creates cake-like donuts and pastries inspired by Twinkies. But the taste goes far beyond that–they’re infused with unique flavors like Jackfruit, Ube and Matcha cream filling. The cake donut we tried was covered in fruity pebbles and insanely adorable. Photos don’t do it justice.
Rebecca’s Cake Pops: Have you ever seen a cake pop rendered as a lifelike piece of sushi? Or, a mermaid tail? Rebecca’ Cake Pops does it all. Their shop is located in Garden City, New York, but you can also custom order and you pops will be ready in just a few days.
Stache of Goods: Cats, pandas and unicorns–even Pokemon–serve as inspiration for these incredibly adorable macarons. Stache of Goods is probably the only thing we’ve ever seen that would deter us from Laduree’s iconic macarons. They’re that cute.
