Every now and then, there’s a specific fashion item I lust for, that for whatever reason, I don’t give into. Maybe it’s the price. Maybe it’s the fact that I already bought too much stuff to fit into my suitcase. Or maybe it’s just because I didn’t realize how special the piece was, until I couldn’t stop thinking about it days, months, or even years later. These are the stories of these pieces that got away.
Some of Dolce’s pieces, especially the accessories, are unmatched when it comes to aesthetic. I’m talking in particular about some of their most lavish, wild runway pieces that have an incredible distinct look.
One example of this, is the Rococo baby angel earrings from the Fall 2012 show. You’ve probably seen baby angel earrings before, but these were truly special. They’re huge, made of lightweight wood and look incredibly realistic yet surreal, as if they were ripped down from a Roman fresco.
I found these earring at the Dolce outlet just outside Paris and tried them on. I had already spent a lot of money on that trip, so I put them back because of the $700 price tag. Plus, one of the babies fell off while I was trying them on…. It was an easy fix but that also made me not want to spend that much.
Still, I spend way too much time thinking about these earrings and how I’ll probably never see them again, at least for that price. I’ve seen other Dolce and Gabbana baby earrings (not nearly as painterly or big) for three times the outlet price. Out of most of the Dolce and Gabanna earrings, these are some of the most unique I’ve seen. The realistic, massive cherubs are oceans away from gold crosses and coins the brand usually dabbles with.
If anyone ever sees these online at any of the resale sites, please send them my way.
