If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering what the sales are like inside Barneys after they announced they were closing in fall 2019. Especially at Barneys Warehouse where things are already supposed to be extremely discounted. And especially after Barneys main locations and websites literally trolled everyone with their initial 5% off sale. Even now in the depths of December, the biggest discount you’ll get on the website is like 50% off – which is not too far off from what all the other retailers are doing this time of year. Well, lucky for everyone, I made the trek to one of the remaining Barneys Warehouse locations to check out the closing sale at Woodbury Common.
The first thing you might notice if you go there yourself is that the store is covered in signs liquidation style. Red and yellow signs reading, “Store Closing,” and “Nothing Held Back!” are everywhere. It’s such a sight that people literally start running towards the store once they see the signs.
In general, Barneys Warehouse’s normal prices can be about 50% off. That was the case with this particular location before the additional discounts. For example, a sequined Paco Rabanne bag that is current season was being sold at roughly half price.
The special closing prices, however, follow:
All bags were an additional 40% off, plus an extra 15% off the marked, already discounted prices. So, that would make the roughly $1,500 Paco Rabanne bag go down to $383. Women’s shoes, men’s designer ready-to-wear and men’s shoes all follow the same pricing structure. There were also bags by Valentino, Wandler, Balenciaga and Chloe all following a similar price.
Women’s designer ready-to-wear, on the other hand, was 60% off plus an additional 15% off. The store is mostly stocked with women’s ready to wear. There are a ton of Barneys in-house label pieces that no one is buying, but you can find a few gems if you search. For example, there are some beaded embellished Dries Van Noten shirts, Alaia tops and dresses, Sacai tops, Junya Watanabe shirts and Chloe dresses. I tried on tops from Sacai, Junya Watanabe and a dress from Undercover — all which would have been about $300 each but walked away with nothing. An Alaia top was marked to $1,249 and would have totaled a little over $400 all said and done.
In terms of shoes, the selection included Manolo Blahnik, Balenciaga, Prada and lots of sneakers, but the styles were mostly meh.
Unfortunately since the store is so popular right now, some of the items are a little disheveled. This particular location has not announced when it is closing yet but in order to sell all the stock, I’m pretty sure they will be discounting to a much higher level after the holidays. Last year, Neiman Marcus Last Call closed at Woodbury Common and they did 90% off everything plus an additional 50% in the final weeks. They also had a much larger selection and brought out labels I had never even seen at the location, such as Chanel, Lanvin and Alexandre Vauthier.
