This is our unfiltered review of the new Glossier You Perfume.
Glossier is the cult beauty brand known around the world for their cool girl approach to products. The Boy Brow has fast become a hero product for creating the perfect one-step brow, while others like the Cloud Paint blush make the traditional beauty item fun again. So, it comes as no surprise that the brand is now expanding into body products (they recently released a lotion and body wash) and fragrance.
Glossier You is the label’s first fragrance and it far exceeded my expectations. First of all, the packaging is everything you’d want from a chic cult-worthy perfume. Instead of a typical cardboard box, Glossier packaged the perfume in clear plastic over a sporty piece of foam, held together with a signature millennial pink rubber band. It’s unconventional.
The actual fragrance itself is bottled in a small blush pink, frosted glass, ombre container, with the “G” logo at the bottom. According to the brand, the bottle was hand-sculpted by a designer before production, hence the chic ergonomic shape, with a small dimple right near the top. The top, which is bright red, pays tribute to the iconic Glossier zip pouch and its red zipper in some ways.
Upon first spray, you can really detect the sweet and musky notes, with a hint of powder. Yes, it’s definitely powdery, but it’s anything but overpowering. Though the fragrance is considered an Eau de Parfum (the most concentrated and strong form of perfume) it wears much lighter than most of the EDPs I’ve experienced. It’s not overpowering and it dries down quickly to adapt to your skin (It’s called Glossier You!) After the initial burst of scent, you can smell a slight hint of spice, which can likely be chalked up to the ambrette base note. Some of the other base notes include ambrox and musk.
I’ve been wearing this fragrance on and off for the past few weeks for a few reasons. For one, to test how long it lasts and also, to see how it adapts to my skin and changes throughout the day. The most surprising thing is the pink pepper note. About an hour after spritzing, it really pops out–and I love it. In close contact, you can really smell a citrusy note too.
In terms of wear, it’s not one of the longer lasting EDPs I’ve tried. You can still smell the scent on skin about four or five hours later, just faintly. But sometimes that’s ok if you don’t want something too strong. When thinking about some of the EDPs that last all day (YSL Opium comes to mind) there’s sometimes a grandma vibe surrounding them. A lighter scent feels more modern, and as the concept suggests, YOU are the first ingredient… meaning the scent is light enough for the unique scent of your own skin to still come through.
The fragrance retails for $60, for 1.7 oz, which is on par with the typical designer perfume price.
Overall, Glossier You is a fantastic fragrance. The bottle is covetable–definitely worthy of display–and the scent is ultra wearable for absolutely anyone. It’s the kind of perfume that even people who don’t usually wear a signature scent every day would probably feel comfortable spritzing daily.
