This is our unfiltered review of Peace Out Skincare’s Acne Serum.
If you haven’t tried any products from Peace Out Skincare, then you’ve probably seen at least one of them floating by your social media feeds. The indie brand specializes in a range of fun dots and patches that do everything from heal acne to gentle micro-needling with retinol. So when I heard Peace Out Skincare was launching its first ever serum, a brand new category for the brand, I knew I had to test it out and review it.
I’m someone who has suffered from acne in different phases of my life. When I was a teenager, I had really congested skin and which continued up until I started pursuing various healing remedies. Today, I still suffer from acne at different times, mostly due to environmental changes (travel, travel and more travel) and stress. During quarantine, even though I’ve been taking good care of my skin, I feel like it’s been regressing back into congestion. I blame this on the stress and sweating in disgusting New York City humidity while wearing a mask.
Let’s get into the ingredients of Peace Out Skincare’s newest serum. This information is coming directly from the brand:
Salicylic Acid (2%) – a mineral that helps reduce excess sebum production and controls oil to help keep pores clear
Triluronic Acid – a powerful soothing hydrator that helps keep skin moisturized and calm
Centella Asiatica Extract – a herbal extract with properties that help support healthy skin
Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Zinc and Miniporyl (which helps refine the look of enlarged pores to give you instantly smoother-looking skin) are also included.
At first glance, this is a very sturdy list of ingredients. Niacinamide and Salycylic Acid are two classic ingredients that help combat acne, and Vitamin C and Zinc are always good for glow.
I first tested the Peace Out Skincare Acne Serum at night before bed, since I already use a potent Vitamin C serum in the morning. Upon first application, the serum is a gel-like consistency. It’s nice and smooth, and it does not feel tacky or sticky. Once applying to the skin, your face may feel a little more tight. It doesn’t burn, but feels a bit tingly.
There’s definitely a strong, herbal scent. That’s coming from the Centella Asiatica Extract likely. While I wasn’t bothered by this, it may be a problem if you’re sensitive to scent and especially if you have sensitive skin that reacts to strongly-scented products.
My current skin situation is that I have congestion in my cheek areas and a big cystic pimple on the middle of my chin. Obviously, serums don’t work overnight and I’ve only tired to product a few nights in a row, but what I can say so far is that my cystic pimple feels less swollen, my skin looks a little bit brighter and my congested pores are just a little more bumpy. I’ve been using the product only at night, while the brand advises you use it night and day.
So far, I love that Peace Out Skincare’s new Acne Serum seems to be helping with my cystic pimple and congested pores. I’m going to be using it daily at night to see if I can get back to the clear pores I had before quarantine. At $34, it’s not a bargain but it is less expensive than many of the other acne serums by brands in the same category (Glossier, Sunday Riley, etc.)
You can shop the product here, at Sephora.
