This is our unfiltered review of U Beauty Resurfacing Compound.
As someone who considers themselves obsessed with skincare, I feel I have an interesting relationship with products. I knew I had to review the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound. I have very fair, very sensitive skin, so using a product that is too strong or not right, even only once, can mess up my complexion. Typically, I use the same group of products, rotating out different creams, serums, toners or cleansers with similar ingredients. I love trying new products, but I’m actually a little bit picky about what I use on a daily basis. For example, there are some serums that I use everyday, while others are relegated to the back of my shelf to be used for special occasions or when I’m bored.
When the new U Beauty Resurfacing Compound came across my desk, however, I was intrigued. First of all, U Beauty is founded by Tina Craig (@BagSnob), who has absolutely incredible skin and is known (I think, anyway) for being more candid and transparent about skincare products than the typical influencer.
The U Beauty Resurfacing Compound came out in spring 2020, but I’m not someone who tries a skincare product for a few days or a week before doing a formal review. I tested this product instead for about a month before deciding it’s one I’ll be keeping in the prime space in my beauty vanity.
Before even testing the product on the back of my hand, I was curious about the ingredients. What I saw is that many of the ingredients in the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound are included in the products that I normally use on an everyday basis, which is great for me, because it meant I would likely get little to no irritation (remember, my skin is so sensitive!)
I was particularly happy to see vitamin C (known to add a beautiful, dewy glow and brighten skin), hyaluronic acid (you need this if you’re skin lacks moisture!) and AHAs (a gentle exfoliator which is also great for people who struggle with acne or congested skin – that’s me also).
Below is the breakdown of the ingredients taken directly from the product page:
Antioxidants
Neutralize damage causing free radicals. Help detoxify the skin.
Stabilized Vitamin C
Visibly brightens + boosts collagen, elasticity and tone. Fortifies skin’s moisture barrier. Diminishes the appearance of fine lines + wrinkles.
Stabilized Vitamin E
Hydrates. Defends skin from damage causing free radicals.
Peptides
Amino Acids, the building blocks of proteins, Peptides help restore youthful skin functionality.
Stable Retinol
Gently promotes normal cell renewal, visibly restores skin + diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Hyaluronic Acids
Visibly boost collagen + hydrate. Reduce the look of fines lines + wrinkles.
AHA’s
Gently exfoliate skin. Diminish visible fine lines + wrinkles, decongest pores, visibly improve skin’s elasticity, tone + texture.
Essentially, the product combines a lot of the essential ingredients that lead to amazing skin in one product, meaning you can use less products. As someone who writes about beauty and tries most of the new skincare releases, I have not seen a dupe for U Beauty Resurfacing Compound in the ingredients it uses.
Upon first application, my skin immediately felt smoother, a bit tighter, but not dry. I used this product with just a simple moisturizer and an eye cream to try to get the full effect and not have any other interference from other products. And also simply because the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound claims to replace the brightener, exfoliator, retinol, vitamin C, toner and antioxidant products you’d normally be using. There is a trend of simple products replacing your entire skincare regime – just look at the Augustinus Bader cream (which Tina Craig has outwardly supported in the past) which has a cult following and demands to be used as the only product on your skincare line-up. I think of the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound as the serum version of the Augustinus Bader cream.
So far, after using the product for about a month my skin feels smoother, less congested and brighter. Some of my acne scars seem to have faded a bit and the texture just overall seems more clear. As someone who has a love of skincare products (and also, an abundance of them!) it’s very hard for me to give up my routine of using other creams and serums. But at least until the near future, I’ve added the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound into my nightly routine. If you’re looking to condense your routine, this is the dream product. Just remember, as with all products containing retinol and Vitamin C, you need to wear a sunscreen daily!
